Dr. Mailhot is an Associate Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Florida. He leads the University of Florida Hematologic Radiotherapy Program. He has published over 60 research articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and presented research at more than 40 national and international medical conferences. Community education is important to Dr. Mailhot, and he passionately shares his knowledge at many community events such as support groups and symposiums.
Dr. Mailhot is a member of the NCI’s inaugural cohort of the Early Investigator Advancement Program (EIAP). He was selected as one of the Exemplary Teachers in the Department of Radiation Oncology for the 2021-2022 school year for his excellence in teaching medical students, residents, fellows, graduate students and postdoctoral students, as well as his mentorship of other faculty. His academic and professional honors include receiving the Robert A. Winn Career Development Award to promote diversity in clinical trials; J. Max Rukes Full Tuition Merit Scholarship, Washington University School of Medicine; and Merit Scholarship, Harvard School of Public Health.
Dr. Mailhot serves as Chair for the Workforce Diversity Committee for the Health Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Council for the American Society for Radiation Oncology. With a focus on treating patients with lymphoma, he is honored to serve as a Hodgkin Lymphoma Steering Committee Member of the Children's Oncology Group. He is a former board member of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Dr. Mailhot's research focuses on improving survivorship, and his research has been supported by the Conquer Cancer Foundation, PTCOG, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Florida Department of Health, and National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Dr. Mailhot is interested in research related to measuring outcomes of radiation treatment in pediatric cancers, optimizing radiotherapy delivery for breast cancer and improving radiation treatment options for lymphoma patients. He also does extensive research on the cost-effectiveness of radiation treatment and is a member of the RADCOMP (Radiotherapy Comparative Effectiveness) cost-effectiveness and financial toxicity workgroup. In addition, Dr. Mailhot’s research focuses on improving disparities in cancer care and promoting diversity in patient care, among healthcare providers and health research. As such, he leads the Workforce Committee for the Council on Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion for the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) as Vice Chair and serves as Diversity and Inclusion Chair for the Particle Therapy Co-Operative Group (PTCOG). Through a research grant from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, he is studying how to enhance communication skills of primary care providers to improve patient access to clinical trials and quality cancer care.
