In Memoriam – Ruby Henderson
It is with a heavy heart that we share the sad news that Ruby Henderson passed away. She was our first volunteer, starting a mere seven months after we treated our first patient. She faithfully offered kind words, a listening ear and a helping hand at least twice every week. She was known affectionately by many as “Proton Mom,” nicknamed by a patient when he learned she was Dr. Randy Henderson’s mother. Ruby logged many hours of volunteer service here and with her church. So many, in fact, she was honored with the prestigious United States President’s Volunteer Service Award administered by the Points of Light Institute and by the Jacksonville chapter of HOPE worldwide as an outstanding volunteer. We will be forever grateful to have known Ruby whose generous spirit inspired and nourished patients and staff alike. She was 92 years-old.
